Thursday, May 7

Graduation Rehearsal

5:45 p.m., Cousins Center Atrium

Student attendance is imperative. If you are unable to attend, please contact the Registrar’s Office at 404-364-8418. Essential graduation materials will be distributed and instructions for the ceremony will be summarized.

New For This Year: To address issues from the past couple of years, we will also be practicing lining up, processing to the Quad, and seating for the big day.  This will help keep soon-to-be graduates in the right places – and ensure each person gets the right diploma! 

Carillon Ceremony

6:30 p.m., Academic Quadrangle (Rain location: Lupton Auditorium)

The Carillon Ceremony honors the graduating seniors with an opportunity to enter a “secret door” in Lupton Hall and climb to the top of The Lale Özgörkey Bell Tower. Facilitated by the Alumni Board, seniors may sign a historical carillon registry book and have their picture taken ringing a bell. No skirts and please wear tennis shoes. Appetizers will be provided, and there will be a champagne toast to follow the Carillon Ceremony.

Friday, May 8

President’s Reception

4-6 p.m., Turner Lynch Campus Center

Sponsored by President Schall, and his wife, Betty Londergan, this wine and cheese reception honors graduation candidates, their families, and guests. Formal invitations will be sent to the graduates’ families. Oglethorpe faculty and staff are also invited. This is a great opportunity for farewells and photos.

Saturday, May 9


8:00 a.m. (report); 9:00-11:30 a.m. (ceremony), Academic Quadrangle

Graduation candidates in regalia must report by 8 a.m. to Lupton Auditorium. There will be a “Help Station” to assist with regalia. After the ceremony at about 11:30 a.m., faculty and staff will be available to greet the graduates and their families.

Golden Petrels Luncheon

11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Turner Lynch Campus Center

The Golden Petrel Luncheon honors graduates of the Class of 1969 and earlier. This event is by invitation only.
